American rock band The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus have banned supporters of President Donald Trump from attending their shows.

The group’s frontman, Ronnie Winter, made the announcement in a video that he recently posted on Instagram. He began the message by referring to a backlash he received in 2020 for criticising those who voted for Trump in 2016, and imploring his followers to get vaccinated against Covid-19 as well as encouraging them to wear masks.

Winter said these previous posts were part of his “Stay Woke campaign” and noted that he “did not remove any of that stuff” from his social media feeds despite criticism.

The singer said of his political views: “Look, man, the thing about being woke is you’re awake. And once you’re awake, you can never go to sleep. And not only has nothing changed, but everything they said was going to happen, the woke people, has happened. You have done nothing but prove them right.”

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus frontman, who has “Jesus saved me”, in his Instagram video, then condemned fellow Christians who support trump, stating, “Hi, I’m Ronnie Winter. I sing for the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and I actually follow what Jesus says. If you’re a Christian and you’re watching this and you voted for Donald Trump, shame on you.”

He continued: “You are not allowed to come to my shows. I don’t want you there. Don’t come to my shows. It’s awesome that you love Face Down. It’s not for you. It’s not your song. It is not your song.”

Doubling down on his ban of Trump supporters from his band’s shows, Winter reiterated his message, adding, “If you voted for Donald Trump, do not come to my shows or ever, not just these four years. Don’t come to my shows because you’re going to hear a lot of woke propaganda, and you’re going to hear the actual words of Jesus.”

Winter concluded his message by saying: “You’re going to see a lot of acceptance from all areas of life and races, and you’re just going to see a lot of harmony. That’s not what you’re about. Don’t come. Refunds are available. Forever, don’t come. Goodbye.”

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus are currently on a headline tour in North America, and will also appear at festivals such as the Warped Tour and When We Were Young.

His comments come after Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong criticised Trump during his band’s headline show at Download Festival over the weekend. “We are slipping into fascism. Donald Trump and his administration are a fascist government,” he warned the crowd in England. “It is up to us to fight back.”
