After being forced to cancel due to severe weather, Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee has moved to offer full refunds after attendees weren’t happy with their original suggestion.
The festival alerted attendees of the cancellation on June 14th via a push notification from the Bonnaroo app, which read, “We are beyond gutted, but we must make the safest decision and cancel the remainder of Bonnaroo”.
Organisers also promised, “We are going to make things right for you.”
However, a new statement on the festival’s social media began, “We want you to know that we’re still listening and actively discussing plans to improve The Farm that we love so much. At this time, we will not be announcing future dates.”
However, they clarified that when plans “take shape, you all will be the first to know.”
The festival was able to run for one night. On the first night, Luke Combs performed a set which included guest appearances by Miranda Lambert, Jon Bellion, and Marcus King. King also played his own set, including tributes to Sly Stone and Brian Wilson. Other performances included Wisp, the Droptines, the Lemon Twigs, Die Spitz, Daniel Donato, and the Insane Clown Posse.
The other booked headliners Tyler, the Creator, Olivia Rodrigo and Hozier could no longer perform for the 80,000 people attending the festival due to the severe weather.
Despite experiencing the first night of four, attendees were unhappy with the proposed 75% refund the festival offered after the cancellation. The new statement reacted to the fan backlash, announcing, “For now, we are updating the refund to 100%, rather than the 75% originally offered.”
The statement continued: “Everyone who works on this show loves Bonnaroo deeply. Some of us have been here since the early years, some were fans first, and some are new but fell in love with it as soon as they felt your energy and spirit on The Farm. We look forward to this show all year. It’s what reenergizes us and restores our faith in community every single summer.”
It then reveals that the cancellation “broke our hearts beyond measure,” but they knew it was paramount for safety reasons. “Our main goal is to give you the most memorable weekend of your lives every year,” it insisted. “Thank you for your patience and perseverance through this difficult situation.”
