BBC release statement on pulled Ozzy Osbourne documentary: “We are respecting the family’s wishes”

The BBC has released an explanation why the planned documentary depicting the final years of Ozzy Osbourne was suddenly postponed and pulled from the TV schedule.

The Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home documentary had been set to air on August 18th at 9pm on BBC One, however, it was taken out of the schedule and replaced by a different TV programme on the channel only hours before it was set to air.

The corporation offered no explanation for this at the time, but have now released a statement about the documentary which says: “Our sympathies are with the Osbourne family at this difficult time. We are respecting the family’s wishes to wait a bit longer before airing this very special film. The new transmission date will be confirmed shortly.”

The one-hour film, depicting the last three years of the Prince of Darkness’ life, prior to his passing at the age of 76 on July 22nd, had been due to air only three weeks after his death and funeral, prompting the thought that more consideration should be put into the ending of the documentary before it is broadcast to the public.

Amid a battle with Parkinson’s disease and a number of other health issues, Osbourne made a remarkable farewell to his rock and roll career only a short time before his passing, performing at the final Black Sabbath concert, Back to the Beginning, at Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5th.

Subsequently, the BBC documentary is set to give an insight into the preparation leading up to this as the star’s health continued to decline, with the original synopsis for the film explaining: “It captures the extraordinary roller-coaster of their lives as Sharon and Ozzy attempt to complete their long-held dream of moving back to the UK, Ozzy heroically battles to get fit enough to perform, and the family deal with the dramatic consequences of his ill-health.”

A new broadcast date for Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home has not yet been confirmed by the BBC.
