Director Michael Bay has quit the upcoming Netflix movie, Fast and Loose, starring Will Smith.

The two previously worked together on the first two Bad Boys movies. Fast and Loose was set to reunite Smith and Bay for the first time in more than 20 years. However, Netflix are now looking for a new director to steer the ship.

Deadline claims that the dispute is due to creative differences between Smith and Bay. Reportedly, the director wanted to focus on the action concept of the movie, while Smith wanted to flex his comedic muscles.

Fast and Loose stars Smith as a character who wakes up in Tijuana, has lost his memory, and discovers he’s a crime boss who has also been working as a CIA agent.

As things stand, Netflix are still hoping to begin shooting the movie in October and plan for it to arrive on the platform in 2026.

The movie has been in the works for several years, with David Leitch previously on board to direct. However, following the Oscars controversy in 2022, which saw Will Smith slap Chris Rock during the ceremony, Netflix paused the project.

Bay is also set to direct OutRun, based on the Sega video game, which will star Sydney Sweeney. However, there is no timeline on when this will enter production.

Meanwhile, this year, Smith returned to music and released his first album in 20 years, Based on a True Story, which failed to chart. His UK tour is set to begin later this month, which will see him visit Scarborough, Cardiff, Wolverhampton, Manchester and London.
