Woody Allen has recalled working with Donald Trump on Celebrity and praised the president’s skills as an actor.

Allen discussed his previous relationship with Trump during an appearance on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast. He also confirmed he voted for Kamala Harris and disagrees with “95 per cent” of Trump’s politics.

“I’m not a Trumper, I’m one of the few people who can say he directed Trump,” Allen shared, before revealing they worked together on 1998’s Celebrity. The movie also featured the likes of Kenneth Brannagh, Winona Ryder, Leonardo DiCaprio and Charlize Theron.

The director recalled of the experience, “He was a pleasure to work with and he was a very good actor. He was very polite, hit his mark, did everything correctly and had a real flair for show business. I could direct him now. If he would let me direct him now that he’s president, I think I could do wonders.”

Allen then said that Trump “was very easy to work with”, to which Maher responded by saying that Trump “is very different in person”.

The director then distanced himself politically from Trump, adding, “I’m a Democrat, I voted for Kamala Harris, and I take issue with him on 95 per cent of things, maybe 99 per cent, but as an actor, he was very good, he was very convincing, and (had) a charismatic quality as an actor.”

Allen then shared his surprise that Trump chose to leave show business behind for politics, saying that “politics is nothing but headaches, and critical decisions, and agony.”

He continued, “This was a guy I used to see at the Knicks games, and he used to like to play golf, judge beauty contests, and he liked to do things that were enjoyable and relaxing. Why anyone would want to have to deal with the issues of politics is beyond me.”

In addition to appearing in Celebrity, Trump’s Hollywood credits also include Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Across the Sea of Time, The Associate, Zoolander, and The Little Rascals.
