Travis Kelce and his brother Jason are well-known for their candid conversations, and while both are currently off the market—with the Kansas City Chiefs star engaged to Taylor Swift—they recently took a moment to weigh in on the complexities of modern romance. During a special “Heights Hotline” episode of their New Heights podcast, the brothers addressed burning questions from fans, including some sage advice on how to approach someone you are interested in.

The episode kicked off with a lighthearted discussion about modern conveniences, but quickly pivoted to the dating advice segment. When a young fan called in seeking guidance on how to ask out a girl he likes, Travis Kelce offered a thoughtful, modern perspective. “I think first you gotta figure out what do you like about her?” he suggested. “You like the way she looks? She likes the way she dresses? You like how funny she is? You like how kind she is? And maybe compliment that and that will get you in the door, or at least you gauge how she reacts to that and that gives you a better understanding of whether or not she would be willing to go out with you.”

In contrast, Jason Kelce offered a more tongue-in-cheek, old-school approach, joking that he learned it from their father, Ed Kelce. He suggested the caller should “find her unattractive friend and you befriend her and you start making her feel like she’s interested.”

Travis was quick to shut down the suggestion, laughing, “This is sick. That’s so bogus kid, do not listen to that advice! That is the 1950s way of dating.”

Ultimately, the brothers agreed that the most effective strategy is to simply be direct. “You just gotta do it, man. You just gotta own it… you gotta have some cojones,” Travis advised. “What’s the worst she’s gonna say, ‘no?'”

Drawing from his own experience, Travis emphasized the importance of preparation. “Have something planned… you gotta have something in the back pocket so, like I said, maybe have a conversation starter and then have a nice segue into maybe hanging out at the movies or the mall,” he said. “Got to have a destination on where you want to take her that’s enticing.”

Jason added a final, grounding piece of wisdom: “I wouldn’t overthink it.” The bottom line for the Kelce brothers? Be authentic, be chivalrous, and above all, just be yourself.
