Electronic artists Odesza and John Summit have issued statements condemning Wasserman Music’s CEO, Casey Wasserman, after he was named in the Epstein files.
On January 30th, the Department of Justice released three million files in connection with their investigation into sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, in which Wasserman’s name was mentioned.
The files show that Wasserman frequently communicated over email during the early 2000s with Ghislaine Maxwell, who is now serving a 20-year prison sentence for conspiring with Epstein to sexually abuse minors.
Since the files were released, Wasserman has faced calls to resign from both the talent agency, which also caters for athletes in addition to musical artists, as well as step down from the board of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Earlier this week, Chappell Roan, Wednesday, Orville Peck, Local Natives and Weyes Blood have all publicly announced their departures from Wasserman Music due to the CEO’s connection to the Epstein files.
Additionally, Wasserman Music no longer lists its active musical roster on its website amid the growing list of names that have departed the company.
The EDM community has also distanced itself from Wasserman Music in light of the recent revelations surrounding the company’s founder.
Electronic duo Odesza took to Instagram Stories on February 13th to confirm their departure from Wasserman Music, writing, “In light of recent news about Casey Wasserman, we have decided to leave the Wasserman Agency.”
They continued, “We cannot continue to be associated with a company that fails to hold those in power accountable for their actions.”
Odesza went on to state that they have worked with the same booking agent since the “very beginning of our careers”, who previously worked for another company that was bought out by Wasserman in 2021.
The duo also clarified they “have never met or spoken” to Wasserman, but said they “cannot remain connected to a company led by him and bearing his name.” Their statement concluded, “We will not stand by idly, nor support this man or his company.”
Meanwhile, John Summit has threatened to leave the agency unless Wasserman steps down from his position, writing on social media, “If Casey Wasserman doesn’t step down, iIwill not remain with the agency his actions do not reflect the integrity of the agents I work with, and if change does not happen, we will take our talents elsewhere”.
In response to a fan, Summit explained that he took his time to issue a statement because it is a “whole team decision” and he has “zero plans on leaving my agents who aren’t involved in this so it’s been an ongoing process how to deal with this”.
Other artists from the dance music space to have either left Wasserman already or threaten to leave unless he resigns include Louis The Child, Levity and Subtronics.
After his name emerged in the Epstein files, Wasserman apologised publicly for his communication with Maxwell, stating, “I deeply regret my correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell which took place over two decades ago, long before her horrific crimes came to light.”
Wasserman added, “I never had a personal or business relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. As is well documented, I went on a humanitarian trip as part of a delegation with the Clinton Foundation in 2002 on the Epstein plane. I am terribly sorry for having any association with either of them.”
