English actor Henry Cavill has reportedly suffered an injury, which has pushed back production on Highlander.

The upcoming film is a remake of the classic 1986 movie starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. While it was initially unsuccessful at the box office, it later found an audience through home video, which led to multiple spin-offs and a television series.

However, according to Deadline, Cavill has been injured while training for the role, which is now unlikely to start shooting until early 2026.

The Highlander reboot is set to be directed by Chad Stahelski and contains an all-star cast, which also boasts Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista and Max Zhang.

Cavill’s casting in Highlander was initially speculated in 2021 and was confirmed two years later. Stahelski, the director behind John Wick, has been attached to the project for even longer and was confirmed to be helming a remake back in 2016.

Stahelski said of his plans while on the Happy Sad Confused podcast in 2023: “I think we have some very good elements now. The trick is when you have the tagline: ‘There can only be one’, you just can’t kill everybody the first time.”

He continued, “I’ll say it for you first, our story engages a lot of the same characters and stuff like that, but we’ve also brought in elements of all the TV shows, and we’re trying to do a bit of a prequel, a set-up to The Gathering (an episode of the TV series from 1992), so we have room to grow the property.”
