Eddington and Top Boy actor Micheal Ward has been granted bail after appearing in court on rape charges.

Last month, the Metropolitan Police charged the British actor with two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault. The charges relate to one woman, and the incidents are alleged to have taken place in January 2023.

After being charged, Ward said in a statement: “I recognise that proceedings are now ongoing, and I have full faith that they will lead to my name being cleared.”

Ward appeared in court at the Thames Magistrates’ Court on August 28th. During the hearing, he only spoke to confirm his name, address and date of birth during a short hearing.

The actor did not enter a plea during the hearing. Ward has been ordered to attend Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 25th.

Ward has been given conditional bail until his next hearing. As a condition of his bail, he is unable to contact the alleged victim.

After the charges were issued in July, Detective Superintendent Scott Ware said: “Our specialist officers continue to support the woman who has come forward – we know investigations of this nature can have significant impact on those who make reports.”

Additionally, the Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London South also stated: “It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in anyway prejudice these proceedings.”
