The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde has confirmed details of a new duets album, Duets Special, set to be released under Chrissie Hynde and Pals.

The forthcoming record features collaborations with a series of Hynde’s friends and favourite vocalists, including The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers, Blondie’s Debbie Harry, as well as the late Mark Lanegan.

The full list of collaborators is KD Lang, Mark Lanegan, Lucinda Williams, Dave Gahan, Cat Power, Rufus Wainwright, Carleen Anderson, Brandon Flowers, Julian Lennon, Debbie Harry, Alan Sparhawk, Shirley Manson, and The Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach.

Duets Special will arrive on October 17th through Parlophone Records. To tease the release, Hynde has shared ‘Always On My Mind’ with Rufus Wainwright.

The track with Wainwright kick-started the creative process for the record, according to Hynde. She said in a statement, “I never thought about doing a Duets album before. I think the idea came about in 2023. I was talking to Jörn, Rufus Wainwright’s husband, on the phone.”

Hynde continued: “I think we were recommending novels to each other and for some reason I said hey, maybe Rufus and I should do something, and quickly scribbled out 10 songs off the top of my head. So Jörn asked Rufus, who was up for it, and that’s how it started. A spontaneous and what I thought would be a fun thing.”

Duets Special is Hynde’s first record since The Pretenders’ Relentless in 2023. Sinxe then, the band hit the road for a lengthy world tour, which was captured on the live album, Kick ’em Where It Hurts.
