After rumblings all year of new music, Alabama Shakes have released their first song in over a decade, ‘Another Life’.

In February, the band announced the huge reunion tour, which began in July in Chicago and will end in September in Texas. Over a total of 30 shows, the band continues to wow crowds, alongside a wide range of support acts, including Shannon and The Clams, Sam Evian, Alanna Royale, and Greyhounds.

Along the road, they have been debuting plenty of new music. At their first in Chicago’s Salt Shed, the band debuted a new cut, ‘Another Life’, which is now available on all streaming platforms.

‘Another Life’ was recorded in Nashville and produced with Shawn Everett, who won a Grammy in 2016 for his work on their previous album.

Howard opens the passionate track with the words, “Here we are, the most unusual circumstances / How could I ask you to sell? / What if there is something better for us next time?”. The song soon opens into an echoey, addictive chorus.

The singer said of the song: “When I wrote ‘Another Life’, I was thinking about all the lives we carry. The ones we’re living right now, the ones that slipped away because of different choices, the what ifs, the what wasn’t meant to be, the goodbyes, and the chance encounters that feel divine.”

Howard added, “This song is about those threads and how they stretch across time and space, connecting every version of who we are. It’s about letting them come together, letting them harmonize, and realizing that goodbye isn’t really goodbye. It’s more like I’ll see you later.  A collective story that never stops unfolding.”
