MTV Movie & TV Awards unveil their 2021 nominations

MTV has unveiled its nominations for the MTV Movie & TV Awards ceremony 2021.

Disney+ series WandaVision leads the scripted nominations with five nominations including Best Show, Best Performance In A Show and Best Villain.

Netflix series’ Emily In Paris and The Boys closely follow with four nominations each.

Other notable nominations come for BridgertonThe Mandalorian and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. Further standouts include first-time nominations for Carey Mulligan, Anya Taylor-Joy and Michaela Coel.

Chadwick Boseman received a posthumous nomination for his role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom during the ceremony, which takes place on May 16. In the postponed 2020 edition of the awards, Boseman was honoured with the Hero For The Ages award.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe dominated the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards, with Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel taking home four golden popcorn statuettes.

Avengers: Endgame took home Best Movie, while Robert Downey Jr. and Josh Brolin won Best Hero and Best Villain respectively. Captain Marvel took home Best Fight, for the showdown between Brie Larson’s protagonist and Gemma Chan’s Minn-Erva.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 virtual version of the MTV Movie & TV Awards celebrated ‘The Greatest Of All Time’ in film and television from the 1980’s to the present day in a twist on the awards usual structure.
