After CBS renewed a significant portion of its programming earlier this year, the network has since moved to cancel several fan-favorite shows. Whether driven by shifting ratings or rising production costs, these decisions have left many viewers disappointed as the network reshapes its lineup for the future.

Perhaps the most notable and controversial departure is The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The news of its conclusion was first announced last summer, leading to widespread speculation among fans regarding the motivations behind the decision.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

As previously confirmed, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is set to air its final episode on May 21, 2026. CBS executives have framed the move as a purely financial decision, citing the challenging landscape of late-night television. In a statement, the network noted, “We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retire The Late Show franchise in May of 2026. We are proud that Stephen called CBS home.”

The Neighborhood

The popular sitcom The Neighborhood will also conclude its run, with its eighth season serving as the final chapter. Actor Max Greenfield recently shared his perspective on the show’s longevity, noting that reaching eight seasons is a rare achievement in the current television climate. “We might be the last one,” Greenfield remarked. “I’m genuinely not sad at all that this is ending and feel so grateful for the eight seasons that we were given.”

Additional Cancellations

The network’s restructuring also includes the medical drama Watson, which has been canceled after two seasons. Despite a dedicated fan base, the series struggled to maintain consistent critical acclaim. Additionally, the comedy series DMV has been axed after just one season, with its series finale scheduled to air this May.
