LCD Soundsystem‘s ‘Oh Baby’ has been used in a new advert by Elon Musk’s Starlink, which aired during the Super Bowl.
The advert for Musk’s company, which has already been viewed more than 14 million times on his social media platform X, promises that Starlink will provide “affordable internet everywhere” which is soundtracked by LCD Soundsystem’s 2017 track.
LCD Soundsystem have a history of allowing their songs to be used in advertisements, such as the 2024 eBay promotional video that featured ‘Daft Punk Is Playing At My House’.
In 2013, ‘Something Great’ was also used to promote the Samsung Galaxy Gear Smart Watch.
However, due to Musk’s right-wing politics and his alignment with the Donald Trump regime, the Starlink advert is a more controversial use of an LCD Soundsystem song than teaming up with the likes of eBay or Samsung.
In recent days, Musk has become embroiled in the Epstein files scandal after emails were released between the Tesla founder and the paedophile financier in 2012 and 2013 regarding a potential visit to his island.
There is no indication in the files that Musk visited Epstein on his island, and he strongly denies doing so.
He has since written on social media after the correspondence emerged, “I had very little correspondence with Epstein and declined repeated invitations to go to his island or fly on his ‘Lolita Express’ but was well aware that some email correspondence with him could be misinterpreted and used by detractors to smear my name.”
Musk added, “What matters is not the release of some subset of the Epstein files, but rather the prosecution of those who committed heinous crimes with Epstein.”
Additionally, another scandal that Musk finds himself in relates to his AI chatbot Grok creating sexualised images without consent, which led to the offices of X being raided in France last week. A new investigation has also been launched into Grok in the UK.
