The Twilight Sad have unveiled their new single ‘Waiting for the Phone Call’ with The Cure’s Robert Smith.

The new track is the first release from the band since their 2019 album, It Won/t Be Like This All the Time. On the emotional, autobiographical track, vocalist James Graham details the personal issues he has suffered in recent years, with Smith illuminating his words on the guitar.

The singer explained in a statement, “’Waiting For The Phone Call’ is about grief, love, and mental illness. These things took over my life and I became ill. I lost the person most important to me in one of the cruellest ways. I’ve always used writing as a method of processing and coping with my emotions.”

Graham continued, “My emotions became a problem and I couldn’t control them, writing music with Andy… especially the past seven years had been both the escape and the opportunity to process and try and make sense of life. We’ve all been waiting on a phone call that can change our lives at some point. This unfortunately focuses on a phone call that you never want to have.”

Notably, The Twilight Sad have a strong history with The Cure, who they first supported in 2016 and also toured the world with in 2023.

Smith once said of the Scottish group: “They are the best band playing the best songs – consistently brilliant, emotional, intense, inspiring, entertaining.”

The Twilight Sad have also confirmed details of a 2026 tour, which will begin in mainland Europe in April. They will then play a number of UK and Ireland dates, including The Roundhouse in London, The Barrowlands in Glasgow, and the Button Factory in Dublin.

Next summer, they will be returning to the road with The Cure for a number of outdoor shows, including Belsonic in Belfast, Marley Park in Dublin, and three concerts at the Wuhlheide in Berlin, Germany.

The Cure’s summer itinerary will also include headlining a series of European festivals, including Primavera Sound, Rock En Seine, North Festival, Rock Werchter, Way Out West, Øya Festival, and Electric Castle, as well as their UK and Ireland tour.
