Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams has hit back at criticism from fans after the band’s albums reappeared on streaming services in Israel, despite them joining the No Music for Genocide boycott.

Last week, Paramore were among the artists to sign up to the No Music for Genocide boycott, in which discographies are being removed from streaming services in Israel, as a means of protesting against the ongoing war in Gaza.

However, only days after the band’s music was seemingly removed as part of the boycott, it then reappeared again on streaming services in Israel without any statement being made on the matter, prompting fans to take to social media to voice their criticisms.

Following a lengthy post on X from a fan who accused Paramore of failing to be transparent about the issue, Williams responded with a statement on her Instagram Stories, in an attempt to explain the real reason behind the discrepancy.

She said: “Been waiting confirmation that all of the Atlantic albums are taken down and actively participating in the @nomusicforgenocide initiative. Speaking prematurely could only cause more confusion. I don’t know why those albums were made available again after being successfully geoblocked.”

Noting how, “I have wondered whether those records are even able to be a part of this boycott but my team have been relentless in trying to help get it done,” Williams continued, “Lastly, I can only be a mouthpiece for myself right now but hopefully Paramore albums are/will remain taken down because it is my belief that boycotts work and I do think as many artists as possible should try and participate in this initiative.”

Despite the tense tone of the statement from the fan, the singer concluded her response by thanking them for their integrity, saying: “Love y’all and it’s really nice to know the people supporting Paramore do not support genocide and are willing to speak up and raise questions, even if those questions are about their band.”

Paramore are just the latest in a long line of artists to have joined the No Music for Genocide boycott, including Amyl and the Sniffers, Fontaines DC, and Kneecap. Additionally, Massive Attack, who are also part of the campaign, took things one step further by demanding that their label remove their music from Spotify as a whole, not just in Israel.
