The gripping trailer for Christy, starring Sydney Sweeney as boxer Christy Martin, has arrived.

The biopic, courtesy of writer and director David Michôd, recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival ahead of its cinematic release on November 7th. The cast also includes Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, Katy O’Brian, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Chad Coleman, Bryan Hibbard, Tony Cavalero and Gilbert Cruz.

Christy explores how Martin managed to make a name for herself in the cut-throat world of boxing after leaving her small West Virginia town behind, and the many difficulties that she faced along the way.

Martin’s achievements in the ring only tell part of her story. She survived an abusive marriage, and Jim was later convicted of attempted murder after trying to kill her in 2010. Martin also suffered from substance abuse issues during the marriage.

Foster plays Jim, Martin’s trainer and eventual husband. In the trailer, soundtracked by Stevie Nicks’ ‘Edge of Seventeen‘, he says to Christy, “If you leave me, I’ll kill you.”

In June, Sweeney explained how she changed her physique in order to play Martin on the big screen: “I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training.”

She continued: “I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour.”

At the recent premiere in Toronto, Martin said of the movie: “Christy the boxer was just the persona, very bombastic and very egotistical, but that is not who I am. I am actually very shy and reserved. I have these two different parts of my personality, which I think is why Sydney Sweeney does this awesome job.”
