Amazon Prime Video’s flagship production, The Boys, is gearing up for its fifth and final season which will see a major casting change. While the core cast of Eric Kripke’s hit creation will remain largely the same, the finale season will also see some familiar faces join the show as guest stars.
Prior to working on The Boys, Kripke created the hit show Supernatural, which ran for 15 seasons between 2005 and 2020. So, for The Boys’ final season, the creator has brought on board ex-Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins.
At the time of writing, details on the exact roles of these two actors are unknown. Many of the plans for season five of The Boys are being kept under wraps, and this is no exception. However, Prime Video has noted that the pair will share the screen with their old Supernatural costar, Jensen Ackles.
Despite the intense success of The Boys, based on the comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, it was revealed last year that season five would be the final chapter of the satirical superhero drama. Kripke announced the end of the show via his social media, posting a picture of season four’s finale script with the caption, “See you for our final season, motherfuckers!”
Shortly after the announcement, the show’s creator told The Hollywood Reporter, “From the very beginning, I wanted to wrap it out around season five.” Revealing that plans had been set in place early on in the show’s life. “I think we were probably in the middle of making season three, so it could have been three or four years ago that we always knew.”
Explaining his decision to axe the show after season five, the creator shared, “I don’t know why I like the number five so much; it’s a good round number to where you get enough.”
Season five of The Boys is expected to premiere in 2026.
