Kevin Spacey admits to “clumsy” behaviour but denies anything “illegal” amid documentary

Actor Kevin Spacey has admitted to previous “clumsy” behaviour but denies he’s ever broke the law amid a new documentary set to air on Channel 4.
On May 6th and May 7th, the British broadcaster will show the two-part documentary, Spacey Unmasked. The film features ten men who share allegations of abuse against Spacey. Their testimonies span five decades, and include alleged incidents which they claim took place in London, Los Angeles and New York.
Spacey Unmasked includes an allegation which happened on the set of the hit Netflix series House of Cards. None of the ten men who speak in the documentary were involved in the London trial that found Spacey not guilty of sexual misconduct in 2023.
Following the birth of the MeToo movement in 2017, Spacey was at the centre of a plethora of sexual misconduct allegations. In addition to being cleared in the London trial, a jury in New York found Spacey not guilty in 2022 after he was accused of molesting Andrew Rapp in the 1990s when Rapp was 14.
On May 2nd, Spacey took to Twitter to criticise the upcoming documentary, stating, “I will not sit back and be attacked by a dying network’s one-sided ‘documentary’ about me in their desperate attempt for ratings.”
While Spacey has refused to respond directly to the allegations in the documentary which he has described as “anonymized and non-specific”, he has now spoken to journalist Dan Wootton on YouTube about his past misconduct which he claims wasn’t “illegal”.
He told the former GB News presenter: “I’ve never told someone that if they give me sexual favours, then I will help them out with their career, ever. I’ve clearly hooked up with, you know, some men who thought they might get ahead in their careers by having a relationship with me. But there was no conversation with me, it was all part of their plan, one that was always destined to fail, because I wasn’t in on the deal.”
Spacey continued: “Were there times when I would flirt with some of the people who were involved in those programmes who were in their 20s? Yes. Did I ever hook up with another actor? Yes. Did I make a clumsy pass at someone who wasn’t interested as it turned out? Yes.”
The actor shared regret for his past actions but maintained nothing he did ever conflicted with the law, stating, “That may not have been the best decision and it’s not one that I would do today. But it happened. It wasn’t illegal, and nor has it ever been alleged to have been illegal.”
Actors Danny De Lillo and Ruari Cannon are among the men who makes allegations in the documentary, which they claim occurred when Spacey was artistic director of The Old Vic in London. He has denied both of their claims.
