The Grammy-award-winning Will Smith has confirmed that he will be releasing his first album in 20 years. The news comes following the release of his single, ‘Beautiful Scars,’ which features Big Sean.

Smith confirmed that his new album, Based On A True Story, will be released on an unspecified date in March 2025. This is the first LP that Smith has been attached to in 20 years and will contain several previously released singles, including ‘You Can Make It’, ‘Work of Art’, and ‘Tantrum’.

His most recent song, ‘Beautiful Scars’, is a personal number that discusses being famous, the potential pitfalls that come with notoriety, and the need to learn from your mistakes. Smith and Sean both rap on the song, outlining mistakes they have made throughout their lives and discussing how they’ve learned from them.

Smith flaunts his talent as both a musician and an actor in the single’s music video. He stars in a parody of The Matrix, where he comedically takes both the blue pill and the red pill. The video adds a bit of levity to what is otherwise quite a serious song.

It’s yet to be revealed whether Smith intends to tour with his new album; however, to celebrate recent releases, in December, he played two sold-out shows in San Diego at The Observatory Park. He has also performed at festivals in Brazil, Madrid, and Saudi Arabia, but whether he will continue doing so remains to be seen.

Big Sean’s verse on ‘Beautiful Scars’ comes shortly after the release of his first book, GO HIGHER: Five Practices for Purpose, Success and Inner Peace. The publication is a self-help book that teaches about peace and acceptance.

Will Smith’s new album, Based On A True Story, will be released in March.
