New York-based dance-punk act The Dare has realised that crowd surfing is a dangerous act, having had his attempt go catastrophically wrong at a recent show in Bristol.
While performing at the city’s renowned Marble Factory venue, the singer, whose real name is Harrison Patrick Smith, attempted to launch himself into the crowd for them to carry him during a rendition of his closing song, ‘Girls’.
However, the crowd were seemingly unprepared for Smith’s stunt, and when he toppled over the barricade at the front of the stage, audience members seemingly parted and allowed the singer to plummet to the floor, ruining his act of showmanship.
While the height he was planning to fall from wasn’t exactly a death-defying leap, falling flat on your face onto a concrete floor isn’t exactly the most comfortable way to land, though thankfully, neither Smith nor any of the audience were hurt by the attempt.
The Dare released his debut album, What’s Wrong With New York?, last year, which Smith is currently embarking on a UK tour in support of. The album quickly became a hit with audiences, although critical reception to his music has remained split.
Smith has also gained notoriety for his collaborations with Charli XCX, having worked alongside the pop artist on her song ‘Guess’, which featured on the deluxe edition of her Grammy and Brit Award-winning album, Brat.
Meanwhile, the Marble Factory, where The Dare was performing, is scheduled to close alongside its sister venue, Motion, in July 2025, leaving a gaping hole in Bristol’s live music and entertainment scene.
