Austin Butler and Tom Hardy take centre stage in the brand new trailer for The Bikeriders, the long-awaited motorcycle drama from Jeff Nichols.
Set in the 1960s, the film tracks the rise of a fictional club of bike enthusiasts, which evolves over the span of a decade from a simple place for like-minded individuals to gather to a more threatening and nefarious outfit, one that causes friction among its members as they lose sight of why they joined the group in the first place.
Butler’s Benny will act as the audience surrogate, joining The Vandals, the club fronted by Hardy’s Johnny. Jodie Comer, Michael Shannon, Norman Reedus, Boyd Holbrook, and Damon Herriman are also part of the ensemble, with The Bikeriders set for release on June 21st, 2024.
Having premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in August 2023, Nichols’ latest feature was originally pencilled in for a December 1st release date, but the effects of the SAG-AFTRA strike saw it removed from the calendar, with the cast unable to promote the production.
Disney subsidiary 20th Century Studios were initially in charge of distribution, but The Bikeriders is now in the hands of Focus Features and gearing up for a theatrical release that’s been close to a year in the making.
The Bikeriders will mark Nichols’ first film since 2016, when he helmed both Midnight Special and Loving, which were released within months of each other, with the filmmaker having been developing the project for almost a decade.
With a release date firmly locked in and a fresh trailer having arrived, it doesn’t appear that there will be any more bumps in the road for The Bikeriders.
