Duran Duran have issued a new health update on their guitarist Andy Taylor, who previously announced he had stage four prostate cancer in 2022 and has been candid throughout his battle.
Taylor has been living with the incurable disease since 2018, however, he did contribute to the band’s most recent album, Danse Macabre, in 2023. The guitarist, who left the band in 2006, was also set to join Duran Duran for their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction last year but was forced to pull out due to his ongoing health problems.
At a press conference for the Sanremo Music Festival in Italy on February 14th, the band’s frontman, Simon Le Bon, discussed Taylor’s health and said the group would be beside him during his journey.
“I am sure he would love to be here. As you probably know, he’s got prostate cancer. It’s very late stage, fourth-stage metastasised cancer. He’s fighting as hard as he can, and we are with him in that fight,” Le Bon shared (via Joe).
The frontman continued: “There is something between us that keeps us together. First of all, we love the music we make together. Nobody else makes music like we do. We’ve all tried to do things on our own, and it just doesn’t seem as exciting as when the four of us get together and work.”
Le Bon then elaborated on the familial dynamic of Duran Duran, adding, “We make each other laugh, and I think that’s very important in a long relationship. When we are under stress, we laugh all the way through it, and it keeps everything light and fun. And the other thing is, we split all the proceeds equally. No one takes all the publishing. We all share the finances equally.”
In 2023, Taylor revealed during an appearance on BBC Breakfast that he was taking Lutetium-177 as part of his cancer treatment. He described it as a “nuclear medicine”, stating, “It kills stage four cancer in your bones, and what it’s effectively done is extend my life for five years.”
Meanwhile, Duran Duran have a busy 2025 ahead. In the summer, they are joining forces with Nile Rodgers for huge co-headline outdoor shows in the UK and Ireland.
