British actor Andrew Garfield has denied reports that he’s set to reprise his role in Spider-Man 4.
While Tom Holland will be starring as the titular superhero, it has been speculated whether Holland will appear alongside previous Spider-Man actors, such as Garfield, after he and Tobey Maguire appeared in No Way Home.
Released in 2021, the Holland-led film surprised audiences when Garfield and Maguire appeared on screen, appearances that had been kept hidden from fans. The latter starred as Spider-Man in the titular 2002 film, directed by Sam Raimi, before returning for two more sequels, released in 2004 and 2007, respectively.
Garfield, however, first played the character in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 alongside Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. The British actor rose to prominence as the superhero. The second film did not perform half as well as producers hoped, leading the third movie starring Garfield to be cancelled.
The actor has shot down speculation regarding another Spider-Man return in a recent interview with GQ UK. Garfield, whose new film, We Live In Time, has recently been released, told the publication that he has no plans to appear in the next Spider-Man.
“I’m gonna disappoint you. Yeah, no,” he said. However, after strongly denying he was going to be in No Way Home before its release, he knows people are going to take what he says with a pinch of salt. “But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on,” he added.
The actor explained that he isn’t entirely opposed to appearing in another movie in the franchise, adding, “If it felt in line with my soul and was gonna be fun. Maybe I’m gonna have like five kids at some point, and I’m gonna need to start saving up for the school tuition or something.”
While little is known about the plot of Spider-Man 4, it is reportedly scheduled for release in July 2026.
