‘Ace Ventura’ actor John Capodice dead at 83

Character actor John Capodice has died at the age of 83. He was best known for his roles in Pet Detective: Ace Ventura and the television series General Hospital.

Capodice’s death has been confirmed by the Pizzi Funeral Home in New Jersey, who have revealed he passed away on December 30th, 2024. In a statement, they shared: “John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who had the pleasure to meet him.”

The late actor is survived by his wife, two children and four grandchildren. At this stage, no cause of death has been revealed.

His career started in the 1970s after moving into acting following serving in the US Army in Korea. Capodice’s first role was in the soap opera Ryan’s Hope, which led to him landing guest spots in a variety of other notable programmes such as Law and Order, Will and Grace, Seinfeld, Ellen, Six Feet Under, Murder She Wrote, CSI, Diagnosis Murder and The West Wing.

Capodice’s most memorable role came in 1994 when he appeared opposite Jim Carrey in the classic comedy Pet Detective: Ace Ventura. In the movie, he played a police officer who is disgruntled with Carrey’s character.

Additionally, Capodice was a celebrated voice actor. In 2023, in his final film role, he lent his voice to the smash-hit blockbuster Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. He also voiced the character Sidney Pan in the 2010 video game Mafia 2.

In an interview with Networking Magazine, Capodice reflected on his career: “One doesn’t choose acting; it chooses you. I wish that I could be more specific, but after half a century of living this life, I’m still pursuing it.”

Capodice also said of his choice to become an actor: “As far as other options, I didn’t have any. You see, acting was in my blood.”
