Harry Styles has been announced as the curator of this year’s Meltdown Festival, taking place at the Southbank Centre in London.
The festival, which brings together the best of established and emerging talent across a range of genres, is celebrating a landmark this year, is honouring its 75th anniversary with Styles at the helm.
Taking place between June 11th and 21st this year, Meltdown will coincide with the singer’s own run of residency gigs at the city’s Wembley Stadium as part of his Together Together tour from June 12th to July 4th.
However, between performances, Styles will find the time to head to Meltdown for a special live headline performance, the specific details of which are still to be announced.
Speaking after the news was unveiled, Styles said in a statement: “I’m deeply honoured to curate the Meltdown festival, especially for the Southbank Centre’s 75th anniversary year. My goal as the curator is to share the music and art that I love, and to celebrate the rich history of the venue. We both share a passionate belief that music is a vital part of life.”
He added: “It brings us together and the Southbank Centre has been at the heart of it, providing easy access to great music for the past 75 years. I’m incredibly grateful to Southbank for having me, it’s really exciting for me to have this opportunity in such an iconic venue.”
Although the line-up for this year’s Meltdown will be revealed in the coming months, the vast range of music on offer will draw on the ‘Aperture’ singer’s range of pop, rock, soul, electronic, and underground influences, according to the festival.
Styles will join a massive line of previous creators, including Little Simz and Chaka Khan in the most recent years, to the likes of David Byrne, Yoko Ono, and David Bowie from over the course of Meltdown’s tenure.
