Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner have been chosen as the married couple at the centre of Possession, which is slated for a Parker Finn remake.

In July 2024, A24, Netflix, Warner Bros, Sony, and Paramount entered a bidding war over the project, with Paramount ultimately emerging victorious.

The original 1981 film follows the relationship between an international spy (played by Sam Neill) and his wife (played by Isabelle Adjani), who admits to having an affair and begins to exhibit worrying and bizarre behaviours as their marriage crumbles around them.

According to World of Reel, sources have confirmed that Qualley and Turner will take on the couple’s likeness

Qualley recently starred in Drive Away Dolls and Honey Don’t! for Ethan Coen and Blue Moon for Richard Linklater, alongside an Oscar-nominated performance by Ethan Hawke. As well as Possession, Qualley’s upcoming projects include How to Make a Killing with Glen Powell and The Dog Stars with Jacob Elordi.

Turner recently starred in David Freyne’s Eternity, alongside Elizabeth Olsen and Miles Teller. In addition to Possession, Turner’s upcoming projects include the upcoming Apple TV adaptation of Neuromancer and One Night Only.

Additionally, Turner is reportedly one of the favourites in the race to become the next James Bond, ahead of rivals such as Henry Cavill, Theo James and Harris Dickinson. Bullet Train actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson is also reportedly in with a high chance.

The original psychological horror was directed by Polish filmmaker Andrzej Żuławski. Parker Finn is slated to direct the remake.

Finn’s latest project was Smile 2, the follow-up to his 2022 hit Smile. In a three-and-a-half-star review, Far Out observed, “All in all, Smile 2 is a worthy successor to the first film, and Finn easily evades any accusations of it being a cynical, thrown-together money-making exercise. Having said that, the movie does set things up very nicely for a potential Smile 3, which could exploit its central concept in new and intriguing ways.”
