During his performance at Coachella on April 19th, Sam Fender was joined by The War On Drugs’ Adam Granduciel. Fender also confirmed he would be releasing ‘Tyrants’ as a single on his birthday, April 25th.

‘Tyrants’, which he played on the Mojave Stage at Coachella, is a song that is already familiar to his legion of fans. It has been a regular fixture of his ongoing tour throughout 2025 after he performed it during the opening night of his European adventure in Paris last month.

Additionally, it appeared on his Me and the Dog EP, which was released exclusively on vinyl for Record Store Day along with other tracks, ‘Empty Spaces’, and ‘I’m Always On Stage’, which are also not currently available to stream online.

Fender performed an eight-song set at Coachella. For the second half of the performance, he was joined on stage by The War On Drugs’ Adam Granduciel, who co-produced his latest album, People Watching.

Together, Granduciel and Fender’s band played ‘People Watching’ and ‘Tyrants’ from his new album cycle, as well as ‘Seventeen Going Under’ and the show-stopping finale, ‘Hypersonic Missiles’. Before playing ‘Tyrants’, Fender told those in the tent, “This song is coming out on my birthday, which is in about a week. It’s called ‘Tyrants’.

Earlier this year, during an interview on The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music 1, Fender said of his personal connection to Granduciel’s music: “I mean, it was an honour. I mean, he was one of my biggest heroes. The first time I heard Lost in The Dream, that record, I was really ill at the time and I was in hospital for a while, and that whole year that I spent kind of recovering, that record, it was the only thing I really listened to. So his music means a lot to me anyway.”

This summer, Fender and Granduciel are set to join forces again. The War On Drugs will open for him at stadium shows in the United Kingdom, at St James’ Park in Newcastle and the London Stadium.
