King Charles is set to release his own show on Apple Music, giving a taste of the monarch’s favourite tunes, surprisingly including selections from the likes of Bob Marley.
The show, The King’s Music Room, which was recorded at Buckingham Palace in His Majesty’s office, will provide the world with the most revealing glimpse into what the King listens to. Reportedly featuring artists from around the Commonwealth—in celebration of Commonwealth Day—it will encompass the old and the new in everything from Afrobeat to Grace Jones to Raye.
The King will share which songs have soundtracked his life, explaining at the start of the broadcast, “Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. I know that is also the case for so many others. It has that remarkable ability to bring happy memories flooding back from the deepest recesses of our memory, to comfort us in times of sadness, and to take us to distant places.”
He continued: “But perhaps, above all, it can lift our spirits to such a degree, and all the more so when it brings us together in celebration. In other words, it brings us joy.”
With a stacked and diverse playlist ready to go, the broadcast is set to be a fascinating insight into the music of the country’s highest office.
With the show being produced by Apple Music, the company’s global head of content and editorial, Rachel Newman, added: “We are honoured that King Charles III chose to share his personal playlist with us, and with music fans around the world.”
The King’s Music Room will launch on March 10th, for free, on Apple Music 1.
