Tobtok and farfetch’d finally unveil full 6-track debut EP ‘My Friends’
Long time friends and studio buddies, Tobtok and farfetch’d, finally reveal their 6-track ‘My Friends EP’ in all its experimental glory. Marking an evolution in sound from their multi-platinum-selling singles of yesteryear, this passion project draws inspiration from all sides of their musical tastes, spanning house through rave, French and glitch with sprinkles of disco and a kick of breaks and drum ’n’ bass! Listen for yourself!
The My Friends EP is a diverse and exciting body of work, evident in the slew of notable media and tastemaker support that came on the releases of ‘I Like When You’, ‘So Good’ and ‘My Friends’. From Auntie Flo through to Sam Divine, and heavy support across the KISS radio network, its arguably Tobtok and farfetch’d’s most accomplished work to date.
With so much attention to detail in its production, the My Friends EP goes all out with technique, playing around with sampling, micro sampling live sounds, and manipulating and pitching vocals.
“The concept was to do something really playful”, Tobtok explains, “We experimented with new ways of thinking. We tried not to think about what’s going to stream or what’s gonna go viral on TikTok, we just wanted to make music that we like.”
Fans of the EP so far will be delighted with the new addition of ‘Movin On’ which Tobtok says sounds “like going back to 2009” with Jerry of farfetch’d cementing this ideal with, “what I like about it is that it sounds so fresh, but also like it’s about 20 years old.”
Drawing on their collective love of French touch and filter house, Movin On has got serious groove. With builds and drops cutting into classic noughties house and a rolling bassline that keeps on popping throughout, Tobtok says, “it’s what we used to love and we want people to experience it in 2023.”
Tobtok has always worked in his own lane, from his early nu disco signings to highly respected French label Kitsuné – who released his only EP to date, ‘Savanna’ – to his more dancefloor-geared signings to Selected as heard on ‘My Carousel’. There have been plenty of nods to the Swede’s talents over the years, from specialist spins from Pete Tong and Zane Lowe, to being asked to curate Toolroom’s Miami Poolside compilation.
Although still early on in their career farfetch’d aka Jerry Sjödin and Johnny Bergström have been making waves of their own. Taking influence from old-time childhood heroes and fusing the feelings of the past with those of today, their music spans genres and is always drenched in love and happiness. Just check out their releases on Spinnin’, Axtone and Soave for evidence.
Tobtok and farfetch’d go way back to when they first bonded over their love of nu disco and French house when meeting at a student club night and have since produced together on singles for Selected and Perfect Havoc.
