Zak Starkey, the previous drummer of Oasis and The Who, has revealed that an upcoming single will feature the sons of Beatles’ John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

Speaking to The Telegraph, the son of Ringo Starr revealed that his supergroup Mantra Of The Cosmos has an album’s worth of songs ready to release. Within that finished work is a single called ‘Rip Off’, featuring none other than Sean Lennon and James McCartney.

Despite having the offspring of both John Lennon and Paul McCartney feature in his work, Starkey is adamant that the work is in no way similar to the Beatles. “It’s like Mantra of the Cosmos with them in it. It’s Sean of the Cosmos and James of the Cosmos, it’s still my band.”

When the interviewer quipped that George Harrison’s son should feature for a full set, Starkey was adamant that framing his work as a homage to The Beatles was unjustified. “No I don’t. Why do I?” he pressed.

Starkey recently admitted he is “gutted” not to be invited on the upcoming Oasis reunion tour, despite performing as the Oasis drummer between 2004 and 2009. He has since revealed that “I’ll cry if I go, in case he mucks it up,” at the thought of watching the upcoming reunion tour play out.

“I’m sure he won’t, but you know that’s my favourite band,” he said. “I’d have done that gig for nothing, you know? I just loved it. I can’t see someone else do it that’s not me.”

Zak’s supergroup Mantra Of The Cosmos recently returned with a track featuring Noel Gallagher and Oasis star Andy Bell, plus Manchester legends Shaun Ryder and Bez, ‘Domino Bones’.

There has been renewed interest in the families of The Beatles members since a huge announcement revealed four Beatles biopics to be released in 2027. Directed by Sam Mendes, the films will see Barry Keoghan, Joseph Quinn, Paul Mescal, and Harris Dickinson play the parts of Ringo Starr, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, and John Lennon, respectively.
