The lineup for the MusiCares 2025 Persons of the Year event has recently been announced, with a host of iconic musicians coming together to celebrate the Grateful Dead.
The band shared a statement about their excitement for the ceremony in October, which read, “This honor is truly a testament to the legacy of the music, which has always been bigger than us — it’s about the connection between us, the crew, and all those who’ve been on this long strange trip.”
They added: “It’s not just about what we create, but about making sure the people behind it, behind us every night, the ones who quietly make it all happen, get the support they need to keep going, no matter what life throws at them.”
For the 2025 event, scheduled to take place on January 31st at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Dead and Company will, of course, make an appearance. The band features two of the Grateful Dead’s original members, Bob Weir and Mickey Hart, alongside several other musicians, including John Mayer.
A mixture of classic figures and modern artists will appear at the ceremony, including Vampire Weekend, The War on Drugs, Maren Morris, Noah Kahan, Sammy Hagar, and Norah Jones.
Mick Fleetwood and Stewart Copeland will also be playing together, with other performances coming from various artists, including Bruce Hornsby, Wynonna Judd, and Zac Brown.
The Grateful Dead’s long-time bassist Phil Lesh sadly passed away on October 25th, 2024, after several years of health complications. He was 84 years old. His family shared the news on Instagram, writing: “Phil Lesh, bassist and founding member of the Grateful Dead, passed peacefully this morning. He was surrounded by his family and full of love.”
