Ty Segall – ‘The Dance’
Ty Segall has announced he will be releasing a new album called Love Rudiments. The record is described as “an instrumental album of percussive music in the throes of passion.” Set to be released on August 30th, the announcement of the Three Bells follow-up has been accompanied by a brand-new single entitled ‘The Dance (Edit)’.
The album is an ambitious ode to percussion. It is difficult for an artist to create a record that is heavy on drums and doesn’t feature vocals; however, if anyone is capable of it, it’s Segall. His new song, ‘The Dance,’ has been edited down so that it can be consumed as a single outside the parameters of the whole album.
The new single is upbeat and evidently jazz-inspired. There is no delay in throwing the listener head-first into a drum-heavy mix, accompanied by an underlying bass and simple melody played on wind chimes. It’s a strong beat that is fun to listen to while also being deeply intricate and energy-infused enough to get any heads around nodding.
The track is broken up into different parts. If you don’t like instrumental music because you think it becomes “repetitive” without vocals, this could be a track well worth your time. The initial beat breaks down into a hi-hat masterclass of timing, with the only other sounds accompanying it being a couple of synth hits every other beat, but it is still profoundly engaging and a joy to listen to.
The album seems ambitious, but it has come to be expected of Ty Segall at this point. All of his projects sound different, and he is proving himself to be a musician who is constantly keen on pushing his own boundaries and stepping into something new as a result. This was reflected in his most recent album, Three Bells, which was a riff-heavy display of musical mastery. The album was received with standout reviews from both fans and critics, and the new record Love Rudiments comes out mere months after its release.
In addition, Segall has announced that he will be taking the new album on tour, which will begin at the end of July in Carnation, Washington, and end in April in Boise, Idaho. The tour will take the musician all across America, bringing his exceptional percussion skills to a plethora of states.
Love Rudiments will be released in August. Listen to the new single, ‘The Dance (Edit)’, below.
