DJ Tim Westwood has been granted bail after being charged with rape and sexual assault earlier this year.

Westwood is facing a total of 15 charges, with accusers claiming they were abused between 1983 and 2016 when they were in their late teens and early 20s.

The charges include nine counts of indecent assault, two counts of sexual assault, and four counts of rape. The DJ, originally from Lowestoft, Suffolk, but now based in Westminster, London, arrived at the Westminster magistrates’ court on the morning of November 10th.

According to The Standard, Westwood wore a puffer jacket and jeans while being surrounded by police officers and security. He broke court rules by taking photos of the court listing on his phone.

He confirmed his name, date of birth and address in court, and did not enter any pleas. When asked if he could hear properly, he replied, “Not really,” but nodded to his bail conditions.

The many allegations include indecent assault at the BBC Studios, rape at a London hotel, and sexual assault at a music festival. He’s also accused of kissing alleged victims without consent, groping them, and forcing himself onto them.

In October, Chief Crown Prosecutor Lionel Idan released a statement about the charges Westwood is facing.

“Our prosecutors have established that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings,” he said. “The Crown Prosecution Service reminds everyone that criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial.”

He added, “It is extremely important that there be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
