Disney‘s Tangled is the next animated feature to get the live-action treatment. It has now been confirmed that Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim have landed the lead roles in the upcoming movie.
The movie follows Princess Rapunzel, who will be played by Croft, who is trapped in a tower. She escapes the confinement with the help of thief Flynn Rider, who will be played by Manheim.
An unlikely romance blossoms between the pair as they adventure together through the kingdom. As confirmed by Deadline, Croft and Manheim will take over from Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, who voiced the characters in the original movie.
Scarlett Johansson was also reportedly recently eyeing the villain role, Mother Gothel, who is known for her wicked musical number, ‘Mother Knows Best’.
However, the Lost in Translation star will not be taking the part, leaving that role still up for grabs. It has not yet been announced who will step into the role.
At the end of 2024, it was reported that The Greatest Showman director, Michael Gracey, had boarded the live-action remake. Gracey will direct a script draft written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, though specific plot details for the new take are still being kept under wraps.
Disney then pressed pause on the project after the box office failure of the Snow White live-action, which featured Rachel Zegler in the titular role, starring alongside Gal Gadot.
The two up-and-comers already have some on-screen success under their belts. Croft starred in the DC show Titans and the Australian film True Spirit. Meanwhile, Manheim starred in the Zombies films for Disney Channel and Paramount+’s School Spirits.
The 2010 movie originally earned approximately $592 million worldwide at the box office against a large $260 million budget, becoming a major success for Walt Disney Animation. It also scored an Oscar nomination for ‘Best Original Song’ with ‘I See the Light’.
