The launch of the highly anticipated final season of Stranger Things took an unfortunate turn for many fans across the world, as Netflix crashed just as the episodes were released.
As per The Independent, the outage began almost immediately after the episodes were officially released. There were more than 14,000 reports of an outage in the US alone.
The outage also stretched to India. There, fans reported the app becoming quickly unresponsive. It froze and showed a connection error. There were almost 200 reports made in India at the peak of the outage.
Netflix has acknowledged the issue in a statement. The organisation shared, “Some members briefly experienced an issue streaming on TV devices, but service recovered for all accounts within five minutes.”
This isn’t the first Netflix disruption the series has faced. In 2022, the app saw a brief outage when the final two episodes of the fourth season were released.
The company had put measures in place to avoid a similar situation, noting the series growth in popularity. Ross Duffer, series co-creator, shared that Netflix had ““increased bandwidth by 30 per cent to avoid a crash”.
Elsewhere in the Stranger Things universe, Millie Bobby Brown has opened up about her working relationship with co-star David Harbour, following reports of a harassment claim made against Harbour on set.
Distancing herself from the claims, the star has said, “David and I have a great relationship. We work really closely together in the scenes and in preparing for the scenes.”
She added, “We also play father and daughter, so naturally you have a closer bond than the rest because we have had some really intense scenes together.”
The fifth series will undoubtedly be the final series of the beloved show. The Duffer Brothers recently shared: “This really is the end of the story of Eleven and Mike and Lucas and Dustin and Steve and all these characters, and Hawkins specifically.”
