St Vincent has shared details of Todos Nacen Gritando, a Spanish language version of her most recent studio album, All Born Screaming.

To preview the forthcoming record which is set for release on November 15th, St Vincent has shared ‘Hombre Roto’, a new Spanish language take on All Born Screaming’s lead single, ‘Broken Man’. Musically, the two tracks are identical, but have a dramatically different feel due to the language Annie Clark chose to deliver the lyrics.

The decision to re-record All Born Screaming in another language is not a commitment that Clark took lightly. Instead, Todos Nacen Gritando is the result of a longstanding love affair with Latin countries, and a way of repaying her faith to her fans in those regions.

St Vincent explained: “The origins of Todos Nacen Gritando can be traced back to some of the most memorable shows I’ve ever played, in Mexico, South America and recently Primavera Barcelona in 2023. Though separated by time and geography, and across a diverse range of settings and venues, these crowds were united in their passion—singing every word to every song in perfect English. It was truly inspiring.”

The fact that those in attendance during these shows weren’t natural English speakers wasn’t lost on Clark, who felt compelled to treat them to All Born Screaming in their native tongue as a thank-you for their support. She explained: “Eventually, I asked myself: If they can sing along in a second or third language, why can’t I meet them halfway?”

With the assistance of her friend and collaborator Alan Del Rio Ortiz, the duo set “to work on translating these lyrics, tweaking here and there for melodic reasons, making every effort to stay true to the song at hand without sacrificing accuracy.”

Clark concluded: “After much rewriting and re-singing every vocal track on the album, the result is Todos Nacen Gritando, equal parts labour of love and tribute to the people who inspired it.”

In October, Clark will have the chance to preview material from Todos Nacen Gritando to appreciative audiences when she plays Madrid and Barcelona on her European tour. She’s also set to stop in Milan, Manchester and Dublin on the short run.

In a review of the album, Far Out wrote: “All Born Screaming is the first album St. Vincent has self-produced and solo-produced. And it shows. The album acts as a moodboard for her artistry, one that flits between her musical interests with ease, unafraid to try and sometimes fail at new things. There are industrial soundscapes, sultry grooves and pulsing-club-ready moments.”
