To the untrained eye, Robert Pattinson did not appear in the new A24 movie, Marty Supreme. However, director Josh Safdie has now revealed that Pattinson is, in fact, hidden in the ping-pong epic.

Marty Supreme is inspired by the true story of Marty Reisman, a ping-pong prodigy in 1950s New York, played by Timothee Chalamet. Chalamet’s Marty Mauser hustles his way across the city in an attempt to make it to the ping-pong world championships, in the ultimate pursuit of greatness.

Recently, during a conversation at London’s BFI Southbank, Safdie revealed that Die My Love star Pattinson had a voice role in the movie.

Making the big revelation, Safdie shared with the crowd (per Variety), “No one knows this, but that voice — the commentator, the umpire — is Pattinson.”

He went on, “It’s like a little easter egg. Nobody knows about that. … He came and watched some stuff, and I was like, I don’t know any British people. So he’s the umpire.”

Pattinson can therefore be heard as the announcer in the first half of the film, during the British Open semi-finals scene where Chalamet’s character faces Hungarian champion Bela Kletzki, played by Géza Röhrig.

Pattinson has worked previously with Safdie and his brother, Benny, on the 2017 crime thriller, Good Time. In that movie, which enjoys the same athletic breathlessness as Marty Supreme, Pattinson plays a criminal named Connie who frantically attempts to free his developmentally disabled brother from police custody.

Pattinson will soon appear in another project with Chalamet, as he will star opposite the Call Me By Your Name star in Dune: Part Three in December.

On January 11th, Chalamet won the Golden Globe award for ‘Best Actor – Comedy or Musical for his work in Marty Supreme, following on from his triumphant win of the Critics’ Choice Award for the same movie.
