Pierce Brosnan, former 007, has thrown his support behind Aaron Taylor-Johnson to be the next James Bond.

After years of stagnation, the next James Bond movie is now in development following Amazon MGM Studios reaching an agreement to gain full creative control of the franchise from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson.

Since No Time To Die was released in 2021, there has been constant speculation surrounding who will be following in Daniel Craig’s footsteps as Bond. The most rumoured name is Taylor-Johnson, who Brosnan believes would be a perfect fit,

“This young man came on the set and took the space, filled the space with passion and energy,” Brosnan said about his experience of working with Taylor-Johnson on 2009’s The Greatest during an interview with Yahoo Entertainment.

Brosnan continued: “So yeah, I think if he wished it, wanted it and got it, he would be great.”

Meanwhile, Brosnan also acknowledged recent comments made by Helen Mirren criticising the James Bond franchise, saying, “I never liked the way women were in James Bond” and that it is “drenched in profound sexism.” However, she also spoke highly of Brosnan and Craig as people.

When probed on her remarks regarding the sexism of Bond, Brosnan told People: “She let them have it.” He continued: “Yes, there’s a certain agreement there. But there’s a certain world and room to move within the proscenium arch of what Ian Fleming put down. So there’s always going to be conflict.”

Plans for the next Bond movie remain under wraps, but it is moving along. Earlier this week, Amazon MGM executives Courtenay Valenti and Sue Kroll provided an update on the status of the Bond franchise, saying at CinemaCon, “We are committed to honouring the legacy of this iconic character while bringing a fresh, exotic new chapter to audiences around the world alongside Amy (Pascal) and David (Heyman).”

Kroll also confirmed that Pascal and Heyman are currently “getting started” on the film in London.
