Peter Doherty has announced details of his new solo album, Felt Better Alive, and shared the title track from the forthcoming release.
The upcoming record is set to be released on May 16th through Doherty’s own label, Strap Originals. The Libertines guitarist has teamed up with producer Mike Moore, who also plays guitar for Liam Gallagher, for Felt Better Alive.
Speaking of the title track, which is out now, Doherty said: “It’s quite bouncy, quite country. ‘Dredging the mouth of the Humber’ is a line from Hancock (about coagulated sprinkled sugar in the bottom of a bowl of cornflakes).”
Doherty continued: “The chorus I love, ‘And I’d always planned/To sing in a sweet and soulful way as only cowboys can/But my saddle strap snapped like a dog-chewed tourniquet…’ It’s an accurate description of how I feel about certain times in my life, y’know? Treasures of the Sierra Mardre: you set off on this mission for the gold and you just ended up lost in the mountains, being hunted by bandits.”
Doherty’s last release away from The Libertines was his collaborative album, The Fantasy Life of Poetry and Crime, with Frédéric Lo in 2022. Since then, The Libertines shared their long-awaited fourth album, All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade, which topped the UK charts in 2024.
While Doherty has touring commitments with The Libertines across 2025, including trips across Europe, Australia and Korea, as well as a huge headline show at London’s Gunnersbury Park, he has also announced a solo run of touring dates.
In March, Doherty is set to begin his ‘Anywhere in Albion’ tour, visiting places mentioned in the Babyshambles‘ classic track, ‘Albion’. During the run of shows, he will play Wimbourne, Birmingham, Oldham, Bristol, Deptford, Catford, Mansfield, Watford and Newcastle.
