‘Pavements’ movie receives official trailer

The first official trailer for Pavements has finally emerged, which comes several weeks after a teaser for a fake biopic called Range Life: A Pavement Story was shared online.
Pavements, which charts the success of the popular ‘90s indie band Pavement, blends documentary, archival footage, interviews, and scenes from the ‘fake’ biopic, which is not a full film in its own right. While the band seemed to tease Range Life: A Pavement Story as a feature-length biopic, it will merely be used within the documentary to help bring the band’s story to life.
After much anticipation, the trailer for the full documentary has finally arrived, merging clips of Stranger Things’ Joe Keery playing bandleader Stephen Malkmus and Jason Schwartzman as Chris Lombardi, alongside scenes of the band playing festivals and making music, as well as interviews with figures who cite the group as an influence.
It has been dubbed as “the story of the world’s most important and influential band Pavement as you’ve never seen them before.” The movie features the likes of Tim Heidecker, Nat Wolff, Logan Miller, and Fred Hechinger in acting roles, as well as appearances from Kim Gordon, Soccer Mommy, and Snail Mail.
The movie also takes us behind the scenes of the jukebox musical called Slanted! Enchanted! A Pavement Musical, which was performed back in 2022.
While Pavements has done the rounds at film festivals already, it is set to premiere at New York’s Film Forum on May 2nd before receiving a wider release on June 6th.
Discussing the movie, Pavement said: “Much as we would love to see a full feature film starring Joe Keery as the iconic Stephen Malkmus, our reality just isn’t ready to be changed forever by a film of such significant import.”
“Instead, we will be releasing the critically-acclaimed film Pavements, which features footage from the too-good-to-be-true Range Life, rooted in the context of Pavements’ boundary-shredding exploration of art and life.”
