Nicholas Hoult will be expanding his filmography into the bank heist genre in an upcoming movie with John Wick director David Leitch.
The news comes after an impressively diverse year for Hoult. 2024 saw the About a Boy actor star in four films – The Garfield Movie, The Order, in which he played a neo-Nazi, Clint Eastwood’s celebrated legal drama Juror #2, and Nosferatu, Robert Eggers’ Oscar-nominated take on the 1922 F W Murnau classic.
According to Deadline, little is known about his new project except that Leitch will serve as director and producer based on a script by Mark Bianculli. So far, Bianculli’s work includes 2016’s The Good Neighbor and a handful of television shows.
He also penned the screenplay for an upcoming action-adventure film about mountain climbing starring Lily James and Peirce Brosnan, which is now in post-production. Amazon MGM, which recently acquired the rights to the James Bond franchise, is set to distribute the as-yet-unnamed Leitch project.
Hoult has already appeared in numerous action movies over the years, including George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road and the X-Men franchise. He’s also set to appear as Lex Luther in the upcoming Superman reboot. However, the bank heist genre will be new territory for him.
Although the plot for the film is being kept under wraps, it is likely to lean heavily on complex stuntwork, given Leitch’s involvement. The director began his career as a stunt man and coordinator and has made breathtaking action sequences his calling card ever since he stepped behind the camera.
John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Bullet Train, and The Fall Guy all put an emphasis on stunts and cast stars who are renowned for doing their own action sequences, particularly Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron. His project with Hoult is expected to begin filming this summer.
