New Paramount CEO praises ‘South Park’ co-creators amid Trump feud

The new Paramount CEO has praised South Park co-creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker amid their public feud with Donald Trump and the wider Republican party.

In an interview published on August 8th, David Ellison, the newly merged enterprise’s CEO, said he has been a fan of the South Park creators for a long time. “Matt and Trey are incredibly talented,” Ellison told CNN. “They are equal opportunity offenders and always have been.”

Last month, the company’s former owners were accused of bribery after settling Trump’s lawsuit against 60 Minutes for $16million. After finalising the settlement, the Trump administration almost immediately approved Paramount’s merger with Skydance Media.

Ellison insisted he was not involved in that settlement. “We comply with all laws, including anti-bribery laws,” he said at a press conference. He did not respond to questions about whether he had agreed separately to broadcast causes aligned with the current administration.

He also swerved plenty of Trump-related questions, stating, “I do not want to politicise our company in any way, shape or form.”

After the new deal worth around $1.5 billion was finalised, Ellison landed the CEO role. It included 50 new episodes of “South Park” and exclusive streaming rights to the show.

Recently, the United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, hit back at South Park after their latest episode savagely mocked her looks. She said, “It’s so lazy to just constantly make fun of women for how they look. It’s only the liberals and the extremists who do that. If they wanted to criticise my job, go ahead and do that, but clearly they can’t.”

The first episode under their new ownership was titled ‘Sermon on the Mount’. At one point during the show, Trump is seen in bed with regular South Park character Satan. Topics include Trump’s attacks on Canada, the recent cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the Epstein list, wokeness, and the president’s lawsuit against Paramount.

White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers slammed the episode, sharing that South Park has had no original ideas and that the show “hasn’t been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt for attention.”
