Actor Natasha Lyonne has revealed that she has relapsed after ten years of sobriety from drugs and alcohol.
The 46-year-old actor first announced the relapse in a post on X, which read, “Took my relapse public more to come.”
It is not uncommon for Lyonne to be open about such matters. In 2005, Lyonne was hospitalised after suffering a collapsed lung, a heart infection, and hepatitis C. Her longtime drug abuse caused these conditions, as Lyonne was addicted to heroin for some time.
Lyonne went on to follow up the new post with the statement, “Recovery is a lifelong process. Anyone out there struggling, remember you’re not alone. Grateful for love & smart feet.”
She added that she will attempt to stay sober for “baby Bamboo,” which is her next project, a boxing movie with Lyonne acting as writer, director, and producer.
She added, “Stay honest, folks. Sick as our secrets. If no one told ya today, I love you. No matter how far down the scales we have gone, we will see how our experience may help another.”
The Poker Face actor finished, “Keep going, kiddos. Don’t quit before the miracle. Wallpaper your mind with love. Rest is all noise & baloney.”
After her confession, fans shared their love for the star, who is set to appear in the new season of Sam Levinson’s cult drama, Euphoria. Lyonne shared some of these posts and dished out her own gratitude back.
In one, she wrote comically, “Thanks, boss. There but for the grace, etc. Sending love back your way. May become a pothead or a nun. TBD.”
Responding to another comment, she wrote, “Facts on facts we need better systems and to end shame.”
Lyonne has opened up about her “junkie years” before, admitting in an interview in 2023 with The Independent that “I was very seduced by that Kerouac fantasy of dropping out of life, just getting on the Greyhound and discovering what the world was about.”
