Rising London punks Middleman have shared the new single ‘Falls Apart’ to mark the announcement of their upcoming EP, John Dillinger Died For You.

A pulsating number that evokes the sound of the 1980s underground, with raw production and locomoting guitars, it sets the scene for their latest body of work. The group are also now a quartet thanks to the addition of second guitarist Rory White in late 2023.

John Dillinger Died For You arrives on April 19th via Evil Speaker Records, and follows the group’s debut release, 2022’s Cut Out The Middleman.

The new track is about “things not turning out how you expect – although that could be for the best”, frontman Noah Alves explains. “Sonically, I think it’s one of our most interesting songs, and Rory’s lead part over the chorus highlights that. It feels like us, but a step up from any of the songs we’ve put out before.”

Regarding the addition of White and what he’s brought to the band, Alves continues: “I write very driving chord-heavy riffs, and Rory allows the opportunity for these carefully crafted and delicate melodies to come through”.

John Dillinger Died For You was recorded at Fuzzbrain Studios in Walthamstow, a place quickly becoming the haunt of emerging punk acts such as Chubby and the Gang and Island of Love. Middleman self-produced the record alongside friend Dylan Gilchrist, as they wanted total creative freedom.

“We wanted to give it a shot figuring it out on our own”, the band says of the learning curve it entailed. Furthermore, recording together in one room allowed them to achieve “the closest sound to seeing us live. It feels real and that means a lot to us”.
