Marvel delays next two ‘Avengers’ movies

Marvel have delayed the release of the upcoming two Avengers movies, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Avengers: Doomsday was initially planned for release on May 1st, 2026, but it will now arrive in cinemas later that year, on December 18th. Similarly, Avengers: Secret Wars has been pushed back to December 17th, 2027, from May 2nd, 2027.
Additionally, Disney have removed an untitled Marvel project from their schedule, which was slated for release on February 13th, 2026. They also have changed the dates of November, 6th, 2026 and November 5th, 2027, to untitled Disney projects after originally being down as untitled Marvel projects.
The schedule change comes after Disney’s CEO Bob Iger recently described the release of Thunderbolts* as the beginning of a new chapter for Marvel and honestly reflected on a difficult period for the company.
The CEO said on an investors call, “We all know that in our zeal to flood our streaming platform with more content, we turned to all of our creative engines, including Marvel, and had them produce a lot more. We’ve also learned over time that quantity does not necessarily beget quality.”
On a positive note, Iger added, “Frankly, we’ve all admitted to ourselves that we lost a little focus by making too much. By consolidating a bit and having Marvel focus much more on their films, we believe that will result in better quality. I think the first and best example is Thunderbolts*. I feel very good about that.”
The cast for Avengers: Doomsday includes Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man.
Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammar, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Channing Tatum , Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Alan Cumming, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Tom Hiddleston will also return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Meanwhile, Vanessa Kirby and Letitia Wright will be making their Marvel debuts in the motion picture.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently in production at Pinewood Studios in the UK.
