A man who charged at Ariana Grande on the red carpet of the Wicked: For Good premiere in Singapore has been sentenced to nine days in jail.
Johnson Wen, a 26-year-old from Australia, pleaded guilty to being a public nuisance after the incident at the premiere on November 13th, where he jumped over the barricade and charged towards Grande, jumping up and down and hugging her before he was separated by Wicked’s lead actor, Cynthia Erivo.
Wen has a track record of similar incidents which he has built up a controversial social media following around, including invading the stage at a Katy Perry concert in Australia and the men’s 100m athletics final at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
According to local Singaporean media outlet The Straits Times, the court heard how Wen had arrived in the country on November 11th to attend the premiere and for a holiday, but noted that his sentence was imposed on account of him being a “serial intruder”.
The social media personality told the judge that he “won’t do it again”, to which the judge questioned, “Are you paying lip service or is this your intention?”, before Wen replied: “Yes, I’m going to stop.”
The court noted, during the trial on November 17th, that Wen has never faced any repercussions for his actions for any of his other stunts, prior to his arrest in Singapore on November 14th, and that his sentence should not be mitigated due to the fact that he is a fan of Grande and Wicked as a whole.
Later on the same night as the incident, after attempting to rush the barrier for a second time and being apprehended by security, Wen posted on his social media channels: “Dear Ariana Grande, thank you for letting me jump on the yellow carpet with you.”
Wicked: For Good is set to be released in cinemas on November 21st, 2025.
