Madonna has spoken out against President Donald Trump after he signed a flurry of executive orders during his first week back in power. The pop icon has accused Trump’s administration of “slowly dismantling all the freedoms we have.”
Both before and after his election, much of the music world made no secret of their opposition to Trump. During the politician’s political campaign, he had a tough time finding music to use that didn’t result in an immediate lawsuit or cease and desist coming from the artist of their estate. Acts like Beyoncé, Bruce Springsteen, The White Stripes, and Foo Fighters, fought against him using their music at rallies.
Madonna, too, has been vocal in her opposition to Trump. In October 2024, she publicly endorsed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, stating, “KamalaHharris For. President!!!!” and adding, “Kamilla [sic] is an intelligent, compassionate, well-spoken leader who stands for justice and equal rights for all people.”
After Trump won the election, Madonna stated that “a convicted felon, rapist, bigot was chosen to lead our country”, adding, “fuck Trump.”
Since Trump won the election and was inaugurated, he has been busy signing executive orders that will gravely affect issues like climate change, access to reproductive healthcare, the safety of transgender people as well as wider LGBTQ+ rights, and immigration.
Witnessing all this happen, Madonna has spoken out again, posting on X, “It’s so sad to watch our new Government slowly dismantling all the Freedoms we have been fighting for and WON over the years,” adding, along with a pride flag emoji, “Don’t give up the Fight!”
Several other artists have also spoken out about Trump’s actions since his inauguration. Selena Gomez posted an emotional video on Instagram, expressing her upset about the president’s order for major deportations and crackdowns on immigrants. “All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand,” she said in an emotional video that has since been deleted.
