Lily Allen has announced that she will be returning to music with her first record in seven years.

Last month, the ‘Smile’ singer shared that she was taking a hiatus from her Miss Me? podcast to “do some new stuff for a little bit”. This new stuff turned out to be a new album, her first since 2018’s No Shame.

Newly speaking to British Vogue, Allen shared that the album is yet to be titled, but it was recorded in a flurry at the end of last year. It took just 16 days to record.

She shared, “I made this record in December 2024 and it was a way for me to process what was happening in my life.” At that time, her marriage with actor and Stranger Things star David Harbour was falling apart, amid reports of alleged infidelity on his part.

In February, the British singer revealed that she spent time at a treatment facility to deal with some of her emotional struggles. She shared, “I went into a sort of treatment center for a few weeks, which was great. I did a lot of group therapy and some individual therapy and I needed some time and space away from everything.”

Now, it seems, Allen has poured a lot of that grief into the new project, especially in her lyricism. According to Vogue, on her track ‘Sleepwalking’ she sings “You let me think it was me in my head / and nothing to do with them girls in your bed”, while on ‘Dallas Major’ she sings, “You know I used to be quite famous that was way back in the day / I probably should explain how my marriage has been open since my husband went astray.”

However, she clarified, “There are things that are on the record that I experienced within my marriage, but that’s not to say that it’s all gospel. It is inspired by what went on in the relationship. Confusion, sorrow, grief, helplessness.”

No release date for the project has been announced yet.
