Liam Gallagher hasn’t been shy of collaboration over the past few years as recent projects have seen him work with a variety of people, but the recent news that he and John Squire of the Stone Roses will be joining forces is one of the most newsworthy and exciting collabs in recent times.
The two initially made names for themselves in iconic Manchester bands Oasis and Stone Roses, so to have them come together on what will now until release be one of the most eagerly awaited projects out there is a full circle moment.
It will be interesting to see how well they work together, as both have unmistakable sounds, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they always blend. Fans can listen on January 5th as their debut single, ‘Just Another Rainbow’, is set for release.
“To me the most obvious take on ‘Just Another Rainbow’ is that it’s about disappointment,” said Squire, “and the sentiment is that you never get what you really want. But I don’t like to explain songs, I think that’s the privilege of the listener, it’s whatever you want it to be.”
“I think John’s a top songwriter,” added Liam, “Everyone always bands on about him as a guitarist, but he’s a top songwriter too, man, no two ways about it as far as I’m concerned. There’s not enough of his music out there, whether it’s with the Roses or himself. It’s good to see him back writing songs and fucking good ones. The melodies are mega and then the guitars are a given. But I think even when you take all the fucking guitars off, you can play the songs all on acoustic and they’ll all still blow your mind.”
The two are clearly excited about the new project, and why shouldn’t they be? Both have made their mark on the musical world, so seeing what a collaboration will sound like is incredibly exciting.
